Continuous Recording from Surveillance Cameras

SmartVision is a powerful software solution for surveillance systems that supports continuous video stream recording from any IP cameras compatible with RTSP or HTTP streaming.

The system ensures uninterrupted monitoring without data loss, which is particularly important for high-activity or high-security areas. It is compatible with most modern devices and allows you to record everything happening without missing a moment.

Enabling Continuous Recording

In the IP camera settings, select the "Recording" section to enable and configure continuous recording. On this page, you can adjust the settings for continuous recording to create a video archive. You can enable or disable continuous recording and also choose to record audio from the camera.

Video Recording from an IP Camera

In the "Advanced Options" section, you can set the length of video clips into which the recording will be divided. By default, this is set to 300 seconds (5 minutes), but you can change this interval depending on the stability of your camera and network.
For time-lapse recording, you can set the frames per minute.
By default, it is 2 frames per second, which helps save disk space. The fewer frames per minute, the less memory it will require.

Continuous recording or time-lapse recording does not interfere with event recording, such as when motion is detected. As a result, you will have both full-quality video and a time-lapse with fewer frames for less active scenes.
No Proprietary Formats — Just MP4: Open, Simple, Universal

Unlike many surveillance systems that lock your recordings into proprietary formats, SmartVision keeps everything open and accessible.

All video is saved in the widely supported MP4 format (H.264/H.265) — an industry standard that works on virtually any device. This means you can easily copy, share, and play recordings on a laptop, smartphone, or even a basic media player without installing extra software or performing complicated exports.

By using advanced compression, SmartVision reduces disk space consumption while preserving image quality. This does require CPU or GPU resources during recording, but it eliminates the headaches of closed formats that demand special players or conversion tools.

With SmartVision, your data stays yours — open, portable, and always accessible.
Continuous, Time-Lapse, or Motion-Triggered: When to Use Each

When setting up a video surveillance system, choosing the right recording mode is just as important as selecting the cameras themselves.

SmartVision offers three flexible options — continuous recording, time-lapse, and motion-triggered recording — each designed for specific scenarios.

Here’s when each mode works best:

Continuous Recording

Best used when:
  • Offices and banks — where every second matters and a complete archive without gaps is essential.
  • Warehouses and data centers — to capture all details, including minor incidents or staff activity.
  • Courts, hospitals, and government facilities — when recordings may serve as legal evidence.

Time-Lapse Recording

Best used when:
  • Construction sites — to document long-term progress.
  • Shopping malls — to monitor overall visitor flow without overloading storage.
  • Nature monitoring — for weather changes, plant growth, or cloud movement.
  • Analytical purposes — when archives are used for insights rather than detailed evidence.

Motion-Triggered Recording

Best used when:
  • Private homes and apartments — ideal for home cameras, as it avoids hours of empty footage and records only when movement is detected.
  • Parking lots at night — to record only when vehicles or people appear.
  • Small retail stores — to focus on customer and staff activity.
  • Offices after hours — when only unusual activity or break-ins need to be logged.
