Motion Detection

SmartVision is powerful software that makes video surveillance easier and smarter. One of its key features is motion detection, which allows you to capture only important events and exclude recording empty frames. The system supports any IP cameras that are compatible with RTSP or HTTP streams.
SmartVision provides users with convenient tools for viewing and analyzing video streams, helping to increase security and monitoring efficiency.

Enabling the Motion Detector in SmartVision

In the IP camera settings, there is a "Motion" section. Using this, you can enable and configure the motion detection parameters with the "Use motion detection" option.

What is Motion Detection and Why Is It Needed?

Motion detection is a feature that activates when movement appears in the frame. It is especially useful for surveillance in places where little activity occurs, such as:
  • Elevator halls,
  • Offices without employees,
  • Apartments or houses when you are not there.
In such cases, there is no need to record an empty space constantly. The camera will start recording only when motion is detected.

However, if the camera is installed in areas with constant activity, such as a shopping mall or a busy street, it's better to use continuous recording to reduce the load on the processor (CPU).
It's important to note that both detection and recording require computer and hard drive resources. If you have many cameras, you need to calculate in advance whether the equipment's capacity is sufficient for all tasks.

How Does Motion Detection Work?

The sensitivity of the detector can be adjusted in the "Advanced options" section.
The range is from 0 (low sensitivity) to 1 (maximum).
You can also select a specific area where the camera will "look" for motion.

When the detector is triggered, the camera starts recording. By default, this is for 15 seconds, but you can change this setting. All event recordings can be found in the "Events" section. This is convenient, saves memory, and allows you to focus on what's important.

Events

On the main screen of the application, there is a button labeled "Events".

This section displays all recorded events, such as:
  • Motion detector triggers
  • Face and license plate recognition
  • Smoke or fire detector activation
Convenient Event Search
If there are many records, you can use the filter to quickly find the desired event through the search form.
Sound Detectors

Support for sound detection without any movement in the frame. The system continuously analyzes the camera’s audio stream and reacts to predefined sounds. When a target sound is detected, an event is created, recording starts, data is sent to the server, and a push notification is delivered. The camera may be visually “silent”, but the system never sleeps.

Use cases are simple and practical: a baby crying in the next room, monitoring a patient’s condition, observing animals, and detecting emergency or abnormal sounds in industrial environments. The system is already trained on more than 500 sound types and can be further trained for specific tasks if needed. Sound and trigger configuration is handled via a CSV file located in the TEMP folder.

Child Monitoring

When a child is in another room, sound detection removes the need for constant video watching. The system reacts to crying or familiar sounds, records the event, and sends a notification. Video is checked only when it truly matters, keeping the archive clean and parents focused on real alerts.

Patient Monitoring

For elderly or ill people, sound often matters more than video. Coughing, shouting, moaning, or a falling object can trigger recording and alerts, even if the person is outside the camera’s view. This is especially useful at night or in low-activity areas.

Using Sound in Business

In many business environments, sound is a clear signal of activity. Recording can start on alarms, vehicle arrival, engine or generator noise, water flow, impacts, or sudden changes in background sound. This fits security sites, warehouses, production areas, boiler rooms, server rooms, and temporary facilities, capturing real events instead of empty footage.

Animal Monitoring

Animals do not follow motion-detection rules. Barking, squealing, meowing, or sudden noises work far better as triggers. The system records events when a pet is distressed, even if the camera is pointed elsewhere. Suitable for homes, farms, enclosures, and shelters.
Cloud Storage

If the camera is set to upload video to the cloud server, the upload status of the files will be displayed on this screen. You can always check if all the recordings have been successfully uploaded.
The "Events" section allows you to easily manage records and quickly find important moments.
